    17% of people don't have $500 saved

There are a number of jobs that twilight years workers can get. Bunnings for one example. Maybe not that exciting and no ladder climbing possibly, but a pay check just the same. My previous life as a golf pro - proshops are always looking for able bodied people who can meet and greet with a...

My sister is one of those; she once had no less than 5 pairs of Christian Dior sunnies on her dressing table - at more than $100 a pop, easily....and she wasn't earning a whole lot, renting a 1 bedder.

I struck that same problem years ago when I was broke (which time?) and needed to get a second job to live above poverty.... It was tough for those 3 odd years doing both with the travel involved.

Could you not have gotten a second job?

    17% of people don't have $500 saved

Quite right. I remember living with a previous partner many years ago; we'd bought a house together, earning good crust. She had a Gubbmint job - guaranteed for life basically. My job disappeared when the Golf Club I worked at went broke and my contract disappeared - whole business gone and me...

    17% of people don't have $500 saved

I actually do, in half of my brain... But the other half of me thinks; smack 'em in the head and say "wake up, will ya!" Of course; everyone is free to make their own decisions, but if you are perennially broke, wouldn't you think that a person might ask for some advice and help on how not...

Yeah, but if we all sat here and only said stuff like what you just said; it'd be so boring we'd all leave and go find a chess game somewhere to play. Come on you blokes! say something controversial and not PC. :D

They are getting paid. They get their full week's wage each week as a standard amount of folding cash. Then, they get their overtime hours credited or debited accordingly against their standard 37.5 hour week. So, say they are owed 10 hours, then in winter they get the corresponding...

I don't think it's to do with "we have, and they don't; so nya-nya-ne-nya-nya!" at all. The bloke should have realised that ATM's can't dispense $6, and either copped it sweet, or go to the Teller and ask politely for the money. But; he didn't think of that, and then proceeded to ruin the poor...

    17% of people don't have $500 saved

One bloke I know has an agreement with all his staff which works on a credit/debit arrangement with their hours; over summer when they are extremely busy they work more than their agreed hours and go into credit. Then, over winter when they are extremely quiet they take off lots of time, and...

I also reckon that a lot of people lie in surveys just because. Maybe embarrassment of not having access to $500 readily - some would say they can when they ever ever could, or maybe stretch the truth to **** the survey dudes off, or other?

Looking at this way; then yes; why wouldn't you? The rpoblem is; they accumulate no hols and/or super etc for the non-existent hours, so it's a bit of a trade-off of sorts. The point is; I was the one who suggested it when the respective staff were not forthcoming to pay the bill in a timely...

    17% of people don't have $500 saved

Quite true. Have seen these scenario many times - have been there myself more than once. I haven't had the staff asking for an advance, but I've had staff who've owed me money for equipment purchased through me 9both in the previous life of golf, and the current one of cars), and we eventually...

The scary thing is; this is the average. There are folk out there with several hundreds of thousands saved - and this would be a minority of people, and these would lift the average.
