    Australia's Hottest Summer on Record...

On the news yesterday; Moscow has had their biggest snowfall in over 100 years, so who knows? A few weeks ago 6000 homes lost power in the US due to snow and bad weather...I think it was Maine, or one of those more Northern Eastern cities.

It's official in Vic at least - 9 days in a row above 30 degrees. Last record was 8 - in 1961 apparently. Surely the world wasn't as hot back then....there was no Global warming until a few years ago.

I'm confused; what do I "get"? I thought we were disagreeing over the validity of Aboriginal weather records from before Catp. James lobbed on the scene?

Settle. I'm no expert; just asking the question. And, just because it is Aboriginal hand down, doesn't mean that it is at all accurate, and that we should blindly accept what is said....Chinese whispers and all that. You don't seriously believe that a verbal hand down over a few hundred or...

Yes, but how was it all recorded? Written down where? Verbal transfer won't cut it as accurate enough I'm afraid.

I don't know. I would have thought their record keeping system (if they even had one) would have been very rudimentary before the last say; 100 years. Just saying "It's been bloody hot", and then 3 generations later the grand-kids reflected to the gathering around the campfire; "Grandad...

And, to clarify one important fact in this "argument" - the level of co2 increases as the temp increases - not the other way around. A reduction in co2 will achieve zero in lowering any temp increase - if and when it may occur in minuscule increments.

The problem I have with this is that it has been said that the world has the same amount of water since the dawn of the planet. It's just a matter of distribution to different areas. Therefore, there isn't less rain - it's just not falling in that area right now. It may not fall there for...

Very worrying if it's all true. The thing that astounds me is; if we are on a march to overpopulating the planet, but the water is a finite resource - just redistributed around the globe via various events such as rainfall, droughts, irrigation and general useage by humans, and given all the...

Hell no; have been known to quaff chardy's and nibble on cucumber sandwiches, but just as happy with a good old barbie and a Boag's.....gotta be flexible!

From what I've seen based on other Countries I've visited, we enjoy a very nice amount of quality with a nice amount of not too much quantity in Aus. Another 50 or 100 million won't improve it a whole lot more - more likely it would go backwards - if how the USA has become; to use it as our...

I hope you're right. But my god - Nature - doesn't take any prisoners. What happens when the world has 10 or 15bill of people on it? How do we feed them all? And make no mistake; the majority of those will be living the life if less, while the few won't be...

I agree. But every time I bring up this issue (overpopulation) I get howled down with "there is loads of land in Australia - we could easily take another 100mill of people", or "who are you to decide on the population level?" etc. Well; I don't decide it - it's just my opinion, and for those...

The other thing about water as a scare tactic is this; we little folk are doing our darndest to save water at home; saving shower water in buckets for the garden, I half-fill one saucepan and clean it, then empty the first saucepan's dirty water with detergent into the second one to clean it...

This was certainly a good summer down here. Made up for the last two that didn't really happen. I'm not sure we can all start running around screaming the GW word just yet. I remember about 2 weeks ago that something like 6,000 flights were cancelled in the USA due to extreme snow and storms...
