Hi Jon - I can see the banks seeing the arrears stats as valid. It would be interesting to see how they collate the stats. Do they look at the occupation of both applicants or just the higher income earner. I would make the generalization that teachers and nurses would prob be the secondary...

I am not ignoring it Aaron. I agree in part with your example above about income comparison However, a person earning 200k wouldn't be a standard accountant in a small business - they probably have a senior position and as you said in a large firm and have worked their way up. I doubt that...

So banks discriminate? The facts on paper are accountant 90k, teacher 90k but accountants have "massive earning potential" so they are a lower credit risk. Tobe you were right when you said no use looking for logic in banks and finance.

Aaron the question is why are teachers and nurses NOT entitled to a special package under the 'profession' umbrella. The key words you missed was 'predominately male' when I referred to doctors and accountants.

I get it now. I just read through the AMP listed professions. I see accountants linked in there. And it clicked .... it is a gender thing, boys club, predominantly male dominated occupations, while times have changed / are changing in that female numbers in these occupations are increasing -...

This topic had me curious about what is a 'profession'. Some info I came across said 4 year learned degree plus compulsory registration with an relevant organisation. Another determinant was that the occupation had the interest of the public at its core. Doctors look after health, lawyers...

So why don't nurses and teachers get this offer? I would have thought there is job stability in those fields. Or is that where the high income comes in? Do medicos need to prove savings? A friend's husband is a specialist and was left without a job (not patient related - partners...
