    Newcastle is still quite affordable. For $350k, you will get stock in New Lambton, Waratah, and even Mayfield West. You may need to do cosmetic reno on these stock though.

    It depends on your budget. If I have 900k and buying in Melbourne, I'll be looking at Prahan or Elsterwick. For 650, I'll be looking at Kensington, flemington and Chadstone.

    My wife's family lives in Berwick. Has someone has said, for a family home, Berwick is alright. It's has some decent schools. As far as investments go, there are heaps of land ready to be released around the area, especially, going towards the Cranbourne way. I believe there are better...

    Me personally, I'm not a fan of Berwick. It is far from the city, takes 40 minutes or so during none peak hour. The major downer is there is a lot of land available there to be released.
