Hardly going to register in Australia, given they are.... not Australian. Just like Mr Morsi. I remain opposed to the death penalty for any civilised society.

You do realise Pink Floyd were being sarcastic, don't you? As for terrorist attacks on Australians, like the Bali bombing, I hope Australians would stand up for our values, which are that killing people is wrong. If you don't love it and all that... :)

Of course they are - being dead and all. So much for the deterrent value of imminent certain death if it still didn't make them give up those names!

Those lives were saved ten years ago unless you're saying that Andrew and Myuran could be international drug couriers from within an Indonesian prison?

Only in your world... In my world using force to save lives is a world of difference to tying defenceless people to a stake and shooting them.

Just one of the many differences in your ludicrous comparison is that in prison, these "mass murderers" (your label - I don't remember Indonesia using the term...) were causing no harm to anyone, whereas ISIS continue to murder innocents at will and won't stop until we are all dead (or convert)...

Of course it isn't but there is no evidence that killing people does anything about that! And even if it did, we all know the idea that the ends justify the means doesn't end well...

Of course it's Indonesia's right to do whatever they want - they are a sovereign nation. It's also my right to state my opinion that they shouldn't intentionally tie people to a stake and shoot them until they die - for any reason.

Because it's inhumane, barbaric and inflicts considerable harm on innocent loved ones, as that letter demonstrates.

And yet there is absolutely no evidence in this thread or elsewhere that killing people and inflicting this suffering does anything about drug trafficking. In fact all the evidence demonstrates the death penalty makes no difference...

Fair enough - let me change my wording then. We shouldn't behave like murdering criminals...

The difference is that one involves locking someone up for a long time and the other involves shooting them repeatedly until they die. If you fail to see that difference as relevant then I am rather at a loss for words... The argument has been made in this thread that life imprisonment would...

The AFP made it clear that they will, in future, seek to avoid repeating this situation, up until the point where it impedes their operations or excessively strains the relationship with their counterparts overseas. Fair enough in my view - there is only so much they can or should do to prevent...

You mean the people of Australia? They are the people who voted for him. And there was I thinking that he just had a strong belief in the sanctity of life... like most Australians.

Of people on SS? Possibly the most unrepresentative sample of keyboard executioners you could find... happy to pull the trigger many times and clean up the mess afterwards too from their words - no doubt they wish they could have been there! If that were really the case in the electorate we...

I reckon the long campaign against the death penalty still has plenty of life in it yet (see what I did there?). The sanctity of life is fortunately still valuable for the majority of Australians - despite the vocal minority on here... as evidenced by the unity in our Parliament on this issue...
