Depends if we call them migration agents or not. If you have money it is far easier and safer to arrive in business class and have a team of lawyers than to risk everything in a rickety boat.

Bayview - I'm not going to quote as it will just end up as a massive post that will be hard to read. I can see some of what you are saying (particularly in your last post). I used to do a lot of work for residential developers but that work has dried up - now it is state and local government...

    "Australian Exceptionalism"

I've been spending too much time on the central coast :D I think everyone is a big fat racist now... I don't want any religious beliefs forced on to me. This is a secular society.

    "Australian Exceptionalism"

Something about refuge and scoundrels would be the polite way of putting it :p As property investors surely we would love to see a potentially much greater pool of potential tenants right? And the fact that there is a housing shortage means that our values will be put up, right? And what do...

 Doing it again. Criticising policy decisions is much different to supporting terrorism. Loose the strawman. It's tiresome and intellectually lazy.

Slipper? Joyce? Abbott? The dancing Senator? The pre-pubescent kid?

Hey. At least he hasn't shoplifted recently.

    "Australian Exceptionalism"

Yep. He was. I judge a man by his actions.

    "Australian Exceptionalism"

Oh, completly. But Abbott doesn't even have the level of intellect to stoop to rat cunning.

    "Australian Exceptionalism"

For all my many disagreements with Howard over many things, at least he had some level of sheer rat cunning. I ain't seeing any of that.

    "Australian Exceptionalism"

I think that is a bit strong. I'm not overly impressed with them in some instances, but in a lot of ways they are performing far better than other leaders. I am seriously unimpressed by Abbott. What a disgrace of a man.
