Yes as previously said, all this is very interesting to me, because it assists in trying to work out the pyschology of the market, and the different factors in play. I might invest, but i have to be sensitive to the pyschology of the market because i use margin debt. I cant be an ostrich.

this is a facinating area of the market. Absolutely amazing, the major broking houses and hedge funds are all competiting to get the processing centre as close to the exchange as possible, to capture that faster milli milli second difference in information flow. i am an 'outsider' here but...

Yes you are spot on and thats exactly why it works in my favour. Consider the recent 1000 drop point in the dow, now that was overall 1000 points, i think some shares dropped by 40% or more due to that glitch. Now lets say i the market is pricing the shares of a company i am interested in at...

i always find these sought of counter arguments interesting. At the end of the day you own a share in a business. What is an index, but a list of businesses that are performing at that point in time (often but not always represented by market cap). So should a part ownership in a...

these long long term arguments about gold are all very well and good, but in the long term WE ARE ALL DEAD. I dont know about the rest of you guys, but i plan on building wealth for my own FUTURE PLEASURE and maybe those of my future kids (if any).

well put, i think people also fail to compare the compounding effect of income over time. If looked at it from a different view: A house 30 years ago was 'equivalent' to x ounces of gold. Today it is 'equivalent' to y ounces of gold. But what about the income component. A house 30 years...

Yes quite agree with you. I never stated there was i was just responding to your post re-gold and adding that it could be the trade of the decade but that i dont trade, i prefer to invest, this keeps my decision making more controlled (not because there is anything wrong with trading, but...

Sunfish you are the one that goes periodically ape at people. You have your ways of making money, i have mine. You take take delight in trying to redicule my approach. But for the record they work, so far since being on this forum since 2007, i have achieved a return on equity through...

Mate it looks as though you 'haved boxed yourself into a corner'. Risk free is risk free, it means i get my capital back, pure and simple. Gold does not offer this over all time periods, therefore its not risk free. It is a store of wealth, but not a risk free store of wealth.

Its not RISK FREE, you dont have 100% guaranteed return of your capital.

sounds very safe to me (probably even got a discount factor(margin of safety) built into it). So long as the rent is sustainable (ie not bubble like rent due to short term supply deficiency). Nice and simple

Gold could well be the trade of the decade, its got the right story behind it, the trend is your friend, supply cant be manipulated quickly in the short term. I have no argument there, but i dont trade, so i cant participate. I know this sounds pedantic but mixing the two thought processes...

then would someone please explain why the: eruo is up after the release of moody's downgrade on greece's debt to junk status; VIX is stabalising to the downside? nothing is as it seem on the surface; global markets are moving fast; by the time it hits your screen, often its a KNOWN KNOWN...

Hang on are we investing or are we speculating (trading). The answer to this question is very simple, but first you have to determine whether you are an investor or a speculator (trader).

depending on the underlying quality of the bluechip, they could still be a very releveant investment for the current times. Research nifty 50, then look at what made the nifty 50 so popular, what was the story behind the nifty 50 to allow purchase at 'any price'. Now fast forward 40 years...
