    Yes that is true mate, anything can be done as long as the people living in there are happy and also the land lord getting paid cash in hand happy as well :-) but as for me now, I don't feel good after reading through all of the thread reply here. too much thing to be consider.

    Well, if you start to declare it to ATO, then they'll get suspicious of what sort of business is that generating the money ? that is why it would be better off just cash in hand for safety but partially convenient.

    well, all of the income that I received from my workplace is of course declared successfully, while the income from rent is not that much to be reported since I have to pay the bills myself (under my name).

    Correct, this is what I'd like to achieve :-) people in Burwood, Inner west Sydney also does the same thing in the old Victorian double brick house. well as long as you don't claim negative gearing component anymore I guess ATO shouldn't care about it.

    Correct, that could be the issue, especially with running a heater unattended. some of my Asian friend, blocks the smoke detector with plastic bag or simply unload the battery because the nature of Asian cooking which generates lots of fumes and smokes :-|

    Yes, it happens in Regis 1 2 3 apartment in Castlereagh Sydney :-) the living room is partitioned and also the sunny room is covered by cardboxes / newspaper for shared by 2 persons.
