I've found a financial planner that I really like working with - we seem to be very much on the same page, and she's done a lot of investing herself - so I've got someone to help get me started. Thanks - you've given me hope.

Couldn't agree with you more. I'm trying not to get too caught up in investing - it's more likely to become a bit of a 'hobby, with benefits'. It gives me something to do at night, as most of the stuff on TV is crap.

Thanks Blacky - you've really forced me to clarify, especially for myself, what it is that I want to get out of this. It was all a bit 'pie in the sky' to just want to 'get ahead'. I now know which goals I want (equity vs cash flow), and in what time frame - I just need to sort out if, and how...

That's my thinking - as long as the 'support team' are happy to doing everything via email (which I'm on every night), it will be great (maybe just a little slower than immediate contact). Where there's a will, there's a way, right? :)

Point taken, however I don't have access to a 'personal' phone for most of my working day (therefore, business, hours), and many websites are 'blocked' at work (also making dealing with many things almost impossible).

I tried to reply to this some time back - it doesn't appear that my post appeared....... I had already read this thread simtr (amongst others), and like Shovelhead's observation, it's hard to decide whether it's supported or not (making it hard for me to decide one way or the other on them)...

Thanks Simtr - I'd already read this thread, plus the one on the InvestEd forum. There seems to be a lot of conjecture about their 'pros' and 'cons' - so I'm not yet swung either way by the comments made. It seems that some people who have actually used them are really happy with them...

I know you're right Macca, but with all the research and reading in the world, I'd still like someone to 'hold my hand' through this. The knowledge that there will be hundreds of thousands of dollars at risk is very daunting, and I'd really like to minimise my chances of making costly mistakes...
