If India forget this is a test and treat it like an ODI, then anything is possible. But logically I see it either being an Aus win (if the wicket plays ball) or more realistically a draw.

It was an embarrasment of riches, that was for sure. Like you say, numerous players missed out on any opportunity or had their opportunities severely curtailed. Our current coach among them. Before Punter came along we had the Waugh brothers. Steve of course debuting years before he...

Further to my post above - Mike Atherton famously declared on Graeme Hick when he was 98* in an Ashes test. It would be have been Hick's first (and, as it turns out, only) Ashes ton. Maybe England would have got a lot more out of Mr Hick over the course his illustrious career if he'd been...

The series is won. Clean sweeps don't mean much to me tbh (unless you're on the wrong end of them). While I agree that you want to win every game, chasing clean sweeps is to me a pointless statistic. We have been head and shoulders above India this series (even with Kohli's superb...

For the umpteenth time with the Axe seemingly poised to fall on his test career and (again) with the series decided and the pressure really off - he has come out and probably done enough to save himself. Besides, who do we replace him with? Yes, runs are runs, but more runs please. His...

That's my memory. He struggled a bit in the late 90's. He even got dropped at one point as you would recall. But his stock and trade was always the (very accurate) leg-spinner. His cricinfo profile says this - At the end he was helped by his stockpile of straight balls: a zooter...

Never a big turner of the ball.... but then the bat is only 4 and a 1/4 inches wide (I remember that from The 12th Man where Max Walker belts the crap out of Richie) so you don't have to spin the ball more than 2 and 1/8 inch to find the edge or beat the bat. But (imo) what made him so good -...

As a Queenslander I wouldn't expect you to say anything else. Hayden's average was boosted by the 18 tests and almost 1900 runs @ 59 against India (fearsome quicks those Indians, aren't they?). He batted to average against Sri Lanka (again, great quicks.... not). And to the West...

To be fair to MM, lets finish the math on that.... He still has 624 wickets @ 24.87 in 108 tests. Which is a better record than Warne on both a Wickets-Per-Match and average basis. But I am still a Shane Warne fan.

re: my post above and Watto pulling finger when the pressure is off.... Watson in the Ashes 2013 During the first 3 tests - 146 runs @ 24.33. Of course, after these 3 tests England are 2-0 up and have retained the Ashes. Watson in the last 2 Ashes tests of 2013 - 272 runs @ 68...

This is a dead rubber test match. And like many of his better performances (yes I am calling 2 wickets one of his better performances) it has come at a time when it really doesn't matter.

Watson now has his first 2 wicket "haul" since 2011.

Comment on cricinfo - Brad: "Good to See Watson cementing his spot in the Australian Team. Making runs at a strike rate less than 50, on a belter, after a coming in at 1/200, in a test that means nothing is a massive feat." EDIT - 107.2 Mohammed Shami to Watson, OUT, and Watson has thrown...

They did for Hayden. As a non Matt Hayden fan. I remember saying a few choice words at the TV the day he carted Zimbabwe for 380. True. Even if he never double tons, it is such a boost to the batting team (and demoralising for the bowling team) to have a guy at the top of the order...

And yet Matt Hayden is on the list. (I never warmed to him as a test player).

Totally agree. Though considering his recent form is about as good as it gets (granted he hasn't yet started churning out the double tons like Pup did there for a while, or Lara did in his day) - I personally wouldn't want to put much pressure or expectation on him doing even more.

Eventually we will play Bangladesh or Zimbabwe. If so, he will be 400* by tea on Day 1 if he can stay in.

A bit more context around the purple patch that Smith finds himself in. This is the list of players with 100's in 4 or more consecutive tests.... Given recent form, Smith would have to be odds on to score the 18 more runs he needs this innings to join this list (he has scored 100's in the 3...

That may be so (about the declaration last test), but with regards to calling it a draw by mutual agreement, it does bear remembering that - - it was a "nice" way to end a test that featured some pretty heated exchanges between the two sides. and - in the powerplay that is the ICC - the...
