We will defy history if the bubble doesn't burst

All very good points people and I am listening... ;) I too wonder about what the next leg up will be and what will drive the increased affordability. Will it be a sustainably lower level of mortgage interest rates? This is possible given our very high interest rate setting but is unlikely...

We will defy history if the bubble doesn't burst

Oh, and one final reply before I stop dominating this thread. But it seems my observations about our enviable position and power to fight any economic threats that might manifest themselves in the near future is not as ridiculous as some suggested. Here's Alan Kohler's own views today...

We will defy history if the bubble doesn't burst

OK, if I must... Simple, its two trend lines in one. The first is the down trend until the market peak in 2003. The second from 2003 onwards is the up trend line only modestly constrained by the worst macro economic conditions since the 1930's. Nice inverse head and shoulders trend change...

We will defy history if the bubble doesn't burst

Winston, That was an excellent article by Chris Joye which you discredit too lightly... Here's some choice exerpts: I know there's a lot of people out there who would like this to be some sort of unprecedented housing bubble, but unfortunately a sane analysis of the market itself shows...

We will defy history if the bubble doesn't burst

You're right Willair. We have about $1M in our pocket for our QLD PPOR north of the border. Pity the poor people... I'm starting to think Brisbane and SE QLD is going to be a great place to invest towards the end of this year. Sydney and Melbourne are having their day in the sun and will...

We will defy history if the bubble doesn't burst

Which is precisely the point I made in my posts a few pages back. I also look at the US history as a guide and it is a useful one. They started with high interest rates and drop them every time there's a sign of trouble. But each time they dropped they didn't go as high in the next cycle...

We will defy history if the bubble doesn't burst

Hi Munroe, Welcome to the forum! At the moment they're doing everything in their power to stop a house price bubble from forming. I'm just betting they'll act just as quickly to lean against a collapse in house prices. Can you see Aussie house prices collapsing if we have commercial bank...

We will defy history if the bubble doesn't burst

And, once again, he is failing to consider this using some sort of game theory logic and allowing for the likely interventions that will follow. Let me explain... If, as he projects, lending continues to dry up to owner occupiers and prices start to fall, what do you think the RBA and...

We will defy history if the bubble doesn't burst

Property Meister, This has been debunked several times before. Here's a recent example that I contributed in another thread: http://www.somersoft.com/forums/showthread.php?p=663515#post663515 Their argument is that we should maintain a constant price to income ratio which ignores the...
