Another snippet of info is that the major gas companies have all chipped in $30m to procure and run a Gladstone Rescue Helicopter for the next 4 or 5 years. Supposed to be up and running by early next year. Small change for these guys and helps their workers out on the Island.

And Qantas will have more direct flights to Sydney from Gladstone per week than they do from Rocky to Sydney. Big times ahead for Gladstone. I think any comments regarding high vacancies etc. are a mere blip on the radar.

James It sounds like you have done pretty well at this point in time to get $950/week. From what I hear, current rents have dropped a couple of hundred $$ per week over what they were some months ago.

This is unfortunately the downside to these booms. There are scores of "locals" in the same boat as your tenants. Where are the lower income professional going to source their workers? There are many many businesses that have to commute workers from Rocky or Bundy as they just can't...

Gladstone is one of the few major coastal centers which does NOT flood so that alone is a big plus for the town. Yeah the fishing of late has not been pretty. Pity the guys trying to make a living that way.
