This is very conservative, even for me. What if, you were able to slum it in a home at $1MM or less, and achieve 5% returns (not very hard to do) - you have now doubled your income to $200,000 per year. Planning super conservative is always a good approach but you should work to make your...

Very simply I can choose to work or not to work. I am not forced into a job I don't want to do. If I'm not working and living off net income from passive investments there is enough income to fund a reasonable lifestyle without ever worrying about money.

......The journey continues and life takes a new path. The above was posted in February this year, and not 8 months later, I have more than 5 million reasons to smile. The growth this time came partially from asset growth (property, shares both local and international), but mostly from kicking...

Brady - I'd rather not go through all the details. One example are properties I bought in Randwick/Clovelly for approx $1.4MM now worth approx $2.6MM, so that's $1.2MM of equity created from thin air. Similar examples at different scales with Australian shares, US stocks, US property etc...

I don't have a PPOR. My company provides my housing for the last 5 years and before that for another 4 years. They pay full rent. It's pretty fabulous too...

    woke up a millionaire

not quite... I haven't added to my Sydney properties. I bought expensive, well located so called blue chip apartments in Sydney's eastern suburbs and they have grown spectacularly with minimal outlays. I added substantially to super, local and international shares and dipped my toe in the US...

That's great sash. I suspect your gross assets are much higher than mine, and so your potential to grow the portfolio outstrips mine. My LVR is in the low 20% range, so only roughly $5m of gross assets. I've stopped buying property but still active in international and local share market and...

    woke up a millionaire

Almost every day! something ticks you off and you just say feck it..... Then you come to your senses... I don't have much debt, about 1.25m, but would like to get rid of all of it when I do pull the pin. Then I can sit down all day and just count what's coming in. If I reign in my spending I...

AITH - to have $10m in net equity by 40 is a phenomenal achievement. Based on your equation above you're already over $5m. There's a heck of a story to be told here!

*bump* Well it's now just over 10 years since I posted this thread. I promised another milestone update at the next million in equity and now happy to report that $4MM in net equity has just been achieved. I've been hearing about the so called "snow ball effect", always understood it...

OK, looks like we're on for this milestone thing. Just presented a very complicated '13 budget for my plant, and straight after a dental visit. I'm wrecked - here's to a better day tomorrow. cheers everyone.

    woke up a millionaire

Hi Shanh, there is not that much to be inspired about really. 10 to 15 years ago I did what everyone else was doing, borrowing large sums of money with an expectation of capital gain. Only difference is that my job gets me through leaner times, and I worked pretty hard. Still do. good luck...

    woke up a millionaire

Hi matto. I guess I've been accumulating as I'm still stashing cash into share fund and recently dipped my toe into the Atlanta market. The compounding nature of the portfolio, some opportunistic purchases, along with not stuffing up my big J.O.B income, should see me through some more good...

Hey redwing - love your maths. I guess it shows a slow and steady strategy. 14 years from when I got serious with IP #1. They were the good old days of borrowing to the hilt and just waiting for the capital gain that quickly materialized.

Hi Bayview - about 18 months ago I was asked to head a large manufacturing facility in the life sciences area. I have around 620 people including top managers, engineers, scientists, technicians and operators to take care of, support $2Billion in revenue for the company, and manage around $100...
