    Racism in Australia

Thanks, TC, that sheds some light. If this were the case, I'd be more inclined to be supportive of a ban, too. Having studied Arabic and thus met many Muslims - both through Arabic classes and through travelling in the Middle East - I think this is a common conception, but largely a...

Yes, she appears to be indoors, possibly in her home. These forms of dress aren't worn 24/7, they're (mostly) only worn when out in public. Do you think that, given the choice, these women would choose not to wear their Islamic dress?

    Racism in Australia

Seriously? There's thus far never been a woman in Parliament wearing a burqa, yet now you imagine there are going to be so many of them such that a troublemaker can't be singled out from a sea of burqas? That's absurd. I can't imagine anything that would single somebody out more than...

True, though a group of conservative senators are now planning to introduce the changes via a private members' bill: http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/2014/09/24/bernardi-team-idiot-says-shorten

    Racism in Australia

I agree, but it's still a problem, and one that needs to be addressed. :) I think that as overt racism is no longer socially acceptable, a lot has just been driven "underground", and its ugliness readily becomes visible when the surface is scratched. As we've seen in recent weeks. :(
