Kiva - helping others via micro-credit

Actually, that's way worse than average; you've been unlucky! Their overall default rate is only 1.2%. I've made nearly 300 loans and I can only recall 1 or 2 defaulting, which seems consistent with their statistics. Did you try hard to pick the dodgiest-looking borrowers? :P ;)

Welcome to the team, both of you! I'm inspired watching this small team steadily grow the past few years. :) It's the fact that people have stuck with it, continuing to re-loan, and that we've had a slow but fairly consistent growth of members, that's allowed our team to achieve so much...

It's not a donation; it's a loan. As others have said, there is no tax deductibility. I don't understand the analogy at all; McDonald's aren't in the lending business. Even if they were, a loan's principal isn't deductible to anybody; at best, the costs of lending are a deduction...

Loans aren't tax-deductible, because you get the money paid back. Donations to Kiva are tax-deductible to US taxpayers, as it's a registered charity only under US tax law.

As long as his last name wasn't "Mugabe". ;) LOL I can't see your loan attributed to the Somersoft team - did you join? :) And thanks for your kind words, but truly, it's all the team who've done the lending. (Quietly I'm really chuffed, but don't tell anybody. :p) In any case, welcome to...
