Firstly, exhaust fan is not the correct term, it is rangehood you are talking about. Exhaust fans are in toilets and dont have filters. I suspect you have recirculating range hood. It does not exhaust to the roof or outside via a duct but filters grease from the cooking and sends cleaner air...
