    Becoming a Mortgage Broker?

Haha that's a rough start Peter. Colin, i know a group of young and relatively successful brokers that are doing very well for themselves pretty quickly (inside 24 months). I suspect that while they'd definitely be above average, the market right now in Sydney may mean its a little easier...

    Becoming a Mortgage Broker?

This is golden advice Colin (nice to see you back on the forums!). Do this, do it well and you're on your way. How fast you get there and the route to being successful may be different for everyone, but having the ability to gain trust, deliver on that trust and maintain the passion/hunger...

    Becoming a Mortgage Broker?

Haha can I claim it as a business expense? IMO, sometimes the best way to get a clients trust is to have no intention to act/behave as a salesperson. Often its just knowing your stuff and communicating it in simple and easy to understand terms. The sales side is necessary to generate...

    Becoming a Mortgage Broker?

Hmm pretty difficult to manage - client service may take a toll and that doesn't bode well at all for business growth. I'd only consider it if your fully committed to becoming a broker in the long term and are using your 'part time' to do alot of the behind the scenes learning/development that...

    Becoming a Mortgage Broker?

Oh, if you go work for someone you may be on some sort of salary arrangement. Often though its based on a commission model - where you only get remuneration when loans are settled. The time it takes for a loan to settle, especially early, can lead to a 3-6 month pay gap window. Cheers, Redom

    Becoming a Mortgage Broker?

This is entirely up to you and not necessarily true for all. I've met plenty of brokers writing 20 mill + in year 1. Work hard, learn as much as possible and have a solid plan - you can definitely accelerate the timeline. Have a cash flow buffer though and expect not to have no cash...

    Becoming a Mortgage Broker?

Agree Peter - I think it'd be a great idea to make people do it after 1 year as a broker. Or perhaps 2 years. KAPLAN assignments to be pretty useful preparation. But as I've said in other threads, the education requirements are basic and simple (anyone could do it easily). Plenty have the...

    Becoming a Mortgage Broker?

Competition to keep them on their toes. Its a business essentially. I recommend Kaplan - great course provider and easy. Diploma is useful after 6-12 months on the job - its more for commercial lending purposes. After getting residential lending down pat, its useful. Perhaps not so much...
