I do my own smoke alarm 'maintenance' for properties close to me. I just have it coincide with one of the 6 monthly inspections I attend, then I have someone witness the smoke alarm test on my 'smoke alarm testing form', either agent or tenant. I have a can of simulation smoke I hit the alarms...
