Hi TC. There's an interesting debate on fertiliser prices on an IPL thread on HotCopper. Naturally, Yellowcake is involved. :) Seems IPL is dropping prices over $600/t. Happy new year to you and your Dad, and let's all hope for a saner '09.

Methinks Ozperp that the link is deflation as TC says. I know I feel depressed, although my little biz is still sound. :) If you really want to blow your "eternal optimism" read this: http://www.kitco.com/ind/Laird/nov202008.html (Same link I posted in a share price thread a minute ago).

I'm no agri-economist but I think the current prices of almost all commodities are being set on Wall St. The de-leveraging of the hedge funds and investment banks has forced them to sell anything which can be sold, regardless of "value". You know better than to take advice from a city-slicker...

to TC Hi TC. Your mate "Yellowcake" is posting on HC that he has had good rain in WA. Wonder how widespread it was?

That's what I came to ask. It was the Liverpool Plains they focused on. Seems to me that good farm land is scarcer than coal.

How do you measure "farm debt"? TC, for example has non-farm assets. If he owed the Ag Bank a cool mil, does "the farmer" have a debt of a mil, or a mill less all assets? How would anybody gathering the stats know what such assets are? This came to mind recently when there were headlines...

Interesting photo of the stubble. You must have nice deep soil for it to expand that much. Saw a clip on TV once of a Darling Downs farmer demonstrating how much soil moisture he had by pushing a steel rod a metre into the dirt. In my back yard you would need explosives to get that deep.

As a city slicker I love the sulphur crested cockies so I must carry my camera and get some shots of our red-tailed blacks. Even more destructive. They love sea almonds, a scraggely tree at best but they near destroy them. Us humans can't get at the kernel of the "almond" without...

Once they are sealed do you flood them with co2 to control pests and fire? I assume it's while filling the "bang" risk exists.

TC, your mate YC posted this on HC. The topic was "China exporting inflation". Since everything we consume comes from China makes sense to buy everything you are going to need in the next couple of years ASAP if you were the sort who had spare cash that was destined for gold. Whatever you buy...

I have three mini gold contracts (know gold better) and it's quite a ride. I gave up using stop-losses because there are always spikes down to shake you out but then it immediately goes back $10/oz and you can't get back in. That's lose/lose. LOL Yesterday I went from up $2k to down 6...

Hi TC. I notice you mentioned a "wetter". I'm sure I mentioned my one year at Ag college (a lot of years ago :) ) and wetting agents were part of the deal then. I have always put a squirt of detergent in anything I've sprayed since, yet it is not mentioned on the labels, as I recall. But...

It's the broad leaf weeds that are thriving and they are my target, and I don't really give a rats about nut grass in an IP. But I do remember 2,4D (forgot how to represent it!) killed the first nut when i last tried it. A dedicated gardener (immediately excludes me) could get fair results by...

My new IP had a rough turf job done, then a bit of dry, and now rain so the weeds are beautiful. LOL Is Two4D still available retail? Last I remember they called it nut grass killer. I sure need something.

I just googled, sugar cane, green manure, to see what the cane growers use, and seems they use soybeans,..... You're a legend TC. :)

Another city slicker Q. If you were to grow a legume crop to dig back into your vegie plot, what would it be? I've just had 40 mts of loam (nothing "black" about it) dumped in my back yard and would like to build up a fertile vegie garden. It's on top of heavy clay.
