Australian Greens, a disaster for the worlds climate.

It's a good thread. let it live but tidy it up a little. :D

Quote: Only three technologies can produce large amounts of baseload power: fossil fuels, hydroelectric plants and nuclear power. Sorry if I am repeating myself it seems to be necessary to be heard amid all the claims and counter-claims. There is nothing speculative about hydro, the...

We had a collie ***** as kids and she would leave halos on the lawn. Dead in the middle with a ring of bright green grass. Dad hated them. (Wasn't too keen on the dog either as I remember) :)

This is good stuff. Thanks Bill. :)

Distasteful as it is, converting sewerage to fertilizer must happen one day. In the meantime there could be a "Pee on a tree" campaign to save water and add nitrogen to your fruit tree. :D

There can be a small plus with legumes. But you know that. :) Fallow cropping under another name?

Seems there is much we agree on, and reading further is one of these things. If you do find out something about wind turbines, please share. Regards.

If you are talking Barrels of Oil Equivalent to construct Vs BOE output a coal or nuclear station would be similar, I imagine. I do know that in the USA they have not built any new nuclear plants for decades. The ones they did build are still churning away though, well past their design life and...

I'm sorry but this is another example of stinkin' thinkin'. I am surprised that anyone seriously thinks that, using current technology, you get more power out of solar cells than you burn making them. And making electronic grade silicon uses a lot of water too. Please, for the good of the...

When did I? TC has explained the problems when greens meddle in farming so I will try the same with power. In Australia, base load generators are hundreds of generators (gen sets), mainly coal fired, operating with a "set throttle" at or near design capacity. Once hot, these boilers are...

Thanks for this example of stinkin' thinkin' :) Only one of the above is suitable for base load power in Australia, these aren't: Geothermal: because it is an unproven technology other than in Greenland (or is that Iceland?) and Kiwiland. Tidal: Still unproven but has two peaks and two troughs...

Peter, Can you draw a line between these folk of whom you disapprove and Tim Flannery? He and about 25,000 other "greenies" and sundry hanger-ons are about to descend on Bali for a talk-fest. Only the peons will fly biz class, the rest will fly in in so many private jets that Indonesian...

That's a bit tough KB. TC is a knowledgeable, thoughtful farmer. I don't know a lot about the industry but I could pick a BSer fairly quickly and TC isn't one. And I agree with his opening post. Very little the greens put forward would pass scrutiny as being logical and practical.

Before it becomes waste it is merely radioactive dirt, normally very close to the surface. It is only there now because it doesn't decay quickly. If it did, nuclear would not be an option, obviously. :D The nuclear cycle removes it from it's near surface environment where cattle and roos...
