I doubt the result would be any different. Looking at the US does not convince me that only "the thoughtful" go to the effort of voting. Sometimes I think only the kooks vote there.

The greatest majority of paper votes are counted on the night but time must be allowed for postal votes to arrive, and you can't assume servicemen on active duty (for example) have computer access on the day and I'm sure you agree that their vote is legitimate.

Be thankful we don't have the strange arrangement they have in the US where each state does it how they wish, with no universal standard of fairness or voting system. Jeb Bush is/was notorious for disenfranchising minorities who he thought might vote Dem.

You can't legislate against it nor can you prevent it. We have a free-market banking system. About the only thing we could do is for the guvmint to open it's own bank and COMPETE. Maybe call it The Commonwealth Bank. Hang on .........

I think this is a very polarised electorate. I, personally, have never had such strong feelings in the 40+ years I've been voting. I don't expect a hung parliament and think the pollsters will end up wondering what went wrong. Might even take the odds on offer for a Lib win. :)
