    Abbott or Gillard...?

Money will determine it but I reckon the "peace" will only last until one of the majors replenishes their warchest for another election. They are both broke ATM. Once they have some cash they will only need a trigger blaming the greens and inds! That bit is important. You remember their...

    Abbott or Gillard...?

Jaycee, I have voted Labor most of my life but even I could recognise that the Rudd/Gillard gov was extreme left and I could not possibly vote for any party with the distinct pink shade that they wore. In this case, the label is apt. :)

    Abbott or Gillard...?

I doubt the result would be any different. Looking at the US does not convince me that only "the thoughtful" go to the effort of voting. Sometimes I think only the kooks vote there.

    Abbott or Gillard...?

I beg to differ. If our elected representatives cant form a practical working government and we are forced to undergo this torture in a re-run, there will be significant numbers who will "punish" the person who let them down and that will be the "protest" votes first time round. Who will they...

    Abbott or Gillard...?

The greatest majority of paper votes are counted on the night but time must be allowed for postal votes to arrive, and you can't assume servicemen on active duty (for example) have computer access on the day and I'm sure you agree that their vote is legitimate.

    Abbott or Gillard...?

    We certainly agree here. :)

    Abbott or Gillard...?

Be thankful we don't have the strange arrangement they have in the US where each state does it how they wish, with no universal standard of fairness or voting system. Jeb Bush is/was notorious for disenfranchising minorities who he thought might vote Dem.

    Abbott or Gillard...?

My point is that they will push Labor TOO far. They do not look in the mood to compromise. But we'll see. It will sure be interesting. :D

    Abbott or Gillard...?

If Labor form the gov as you say they will, the Greens will try to extract too high a price and it will become unworkable. For starters they will INSIST on the original super tax being reinstated. Can Labor back down? If they refuse to go back to 40% will the Greens knock back the amended...

    Abbott or Gillard...?

HE I wasn't making a political speech. The election is over so maybe you can get off your soap box too. For ME a vote for Greens is really a vote for Reds. (Watermelons?)

    Abbott or Gillard...?

Never thought I'd be saying this but methinks it's time to increase the numbers in the house, and/or allow a larger variation between electorates. The high number of informal and green votes showed a greater dissatisfaction than usual and more homogenous electorates might help. BIL who...

    Abbott or Gillard...?

I agree, but I get into too much trouble voicing my opinion so refrained. :D Words like "leaches" and "parasites on the productive states" crossed my mind but I am too much a gentleman to voice them. :)

    Abbott or Gillard...?

You can't legislate against it nor can you prevent it. We have a free-market banking system. About the only thing we could do is for the guvmint to open it's own bank and COMPETE. Maybe call it The Commonwealth Bank. Hang on .........

    Abbott or Gillard...?

But did you check the informal vote to ensure it was, indeed, informal?

    Abbott or Gillard...?

And they won't be the least bit upset about you saying so either. LOL

    Abbott or Gillard...?

I think this is a very polarised electorate. I, personally, have never had such strong feelings in the 40+ years I've been voting. I don't expect a hung parliament and think the pollsters will end up wondering what went wrong. Might even take the odds on offer for a Lib win. :)

    Abbott or Gillard...?

We've been over-run by them in Herbert. Both parties have opened their hearts and wallets to us. :D Our Dear Santa wish list is almost complete. Did any pollies go to SA?

    Abbott or Gillard...?

It's hard to like Abbott but at times like these you've just gotta Spread your arms and hold your breath and always trust your cape.

    Abbott or Gillard...?

I've always thought that a deliberately informal vote is a legitimate one. Should you write the classic "Pox on both your houses!" across the ballot, scrutineers of both parties will check it out to see if there was grounds to have the vote placed in their pile. So you have successfully made...

Is this the same China which is about to become the worlds biggest importer of steaming coal for power generation?
