    Gold price over $US1600/ounce

OK, seriously. The advance of technology has reduced the amount of copper required in telephony for decades. Just replacing the old copper wire pairs with co-axial cable greatly reduced the copper needed. This was so dramatic that I once read that more copper was being "mined" under city...

As a percentage of total reserves their gold is still low though. I forget the figures (there are so many) but there just isn't enough available above ground or likely to mined for them to reach a modest percentage. (I think they were talking 10%) Italy has a useful amount in reserve and I'm...

That's because nobody else wants to touch the filthy process of separation and refining. Molly Corp was shut down in the US for this reason and Malaysia is still resisting Lynas doing their dirty work there.

Me too. It's the gold/US$ ratio that determines my miners' share prices (In US$).

If your Dad want's to "make thousands in a few months" then he must buy GOLD (it's a gold ETF) on leverage, on the ASX. You can do that via a standard broking account. To make REAL money you trade options but he would need a specialised account for that. None of this with MY blessing though...

There may well be a drop in price, back to 1500 even. But gold will again become one of the pillars supporting nations' currencies one day. This could even happen soon if creditors ask Italy to put up some of their gold as collateral for further loans. They actually have quite a bit in their...

Many of the same They who were laughed at for predicting the GFC for years before it happened. The odds against "something bad" happening to their currency are far shorter than other events we insure against.

I may have mentioned this earlier but I had a Eureka moment when I heard how Zimbabwe "survived" their hyper-inflation: It was the black market USD which substituted for the official currency. People changed their rapidly depreciating local currency for USD immediately and could then afford to...

Anyone watching? There is now doubt that those crazys playing chicken in the US will dodge before the crash. Some sort of crash is inevitable. What price then?

If you pay cash it isn't neg geared, which is the comparison I made. My statement holds true. Paid up property has not increased X5 so it is still true that Au has greater cap gain.

Where do I buy them? If you take things to their logical conclusion we are all doomed, resistance is futile. Maybe you just need enough gold to buy a few cases of good wine: The more gold, the better the wine. :D

The Euro is hardly a "confidence inspiring" example of a common currency. The next reserve currency will have some sort of backing and it is difficult to thinkof anything other than gold being acceptable. This experiment with totally fiat currencies has failed but the transition to the next one...

Could you define "passive" please? The three most commonly used adjectives here are "positive, neutral, negative". A gold brick is "neutral", JUST as dependent on, but no less than, "neutral" property on capital gain to maintain our interest. If you think "aggressive" is the reverse of passive...

I haven't noticed property bulls giving exit points. Gold may be "overbought" today, but it wont be a "sell" until the US and the EU get their houses in order. Even then some form of "gold backed currency" may be part of the cure. One one will ever go back to a fully convertible currency...
