Keep the s#!t3 to a minimum and stick around. You certainly come in very handy :)

Sewer line running diagonally across backyard

Some of the ones I've spoken to in council so far have been adamant that I can't put anything at all over the sewer line - even paving. Does this mean I should probably get something in writing from the WaterBoard rather than council?

Sewer line running diagonally across backyard

Probably the best way to go about it. I certainly like doing old things up and hearing people say how nice it is once it's done. I dream about it. But in reality I prefer my day job. And I do wonder if I've still got it in me. Not doing much else on my weekends though ... The termites are...

long-term - IP. Will probably live there while doing the renos. If there was a way I could keep the current tenants (who want to stay, have been there 5 years) and do renos at the same time, I would. Doesn't seem fair though. Also need to paint inside and out, maybe gyprock interior walls...

Sewer line running diagonally across backyard

Yeah - was told to encase any trees, too. Is it that kind of pipe line? PM-ing you about the council for the time-being.

Sewer line running diagonally across backyard

pity Yeah I can see your point. Still, there are a lot of buyers who wouldn't even consider it with that line there. That makes it a lot harder to sell ... doesn't it?

Sewer line running diagonally across backyard

Yeah, thanks, good point, true. Would like to know I could at least plant some trees, put down some paving (reduce mowing) and put up a pergola or two. Of course the pool remains a 'pipe dream'. I'm sure it would affect resale, though. OK got it. Because it's less drama for council? Sounds...

REA actually seems to be listening. She's going to send the contract to the solicitor on Monday. Was talking about updates from council. Agrees that this council can be quite difficult. I now need to think about costs and renegotiating price.

I think you're right. IMO the REA wants to keep her head as firmly in the sand as she can get it. I'm gonna ring her now.

When I say my block, I haven't even signed the contract yet. This is the sticking point at the moment. Will try to get a sketch up. Definitely, if/when I sign the contract, I will. You're saying to foot the council? Like the sound of that! They seem a little reluctant so far, though. Mind you...

Sewer line running diagonally across backyard

Thanks bob shovel - very helpful. It's 1m to 1.2m deep so not too bad. I'm in the country. Still looking into the option of encasing it and what I can do from that point and rough price guesstimate. Would prefer to move it. When I spoke to someone yesterday I was told that council won't...

Will speak to agent. Solicitor has to write to vendor's solicitor for the contract. I thought REAs were able to provide them on asking  About time I spoke to the agent again...

Sewer line running diagonally across backyard

Thanks - kind of baulking at everything atm :o I was actually more worried when I didn't think there was anything I could do about it. Guess it's a bit of a worry 'cause there's quite a bit of stormwater getting onto the property and something has to be done about that too. Hope to negotiate...

Sewer line running diagonally across backyard

Thanks all. I'm guessing that if this has got me worried before I buy, it's going to be difficult to pass on to another buyer if I ever want to sell.

Sewer line running diagonally across backyard

To add to the list of undesirable characteristics, I've now discovered that there's a sewer line running diagonally across the backyard. Went to council to see what could be done about stormwater running onto property and saw the sewer lines. Have read a few old threads. A couple of...
