just keep those stop losses tight. And for those following Evan's model, again i emphasis listen to Evan when he says he only buys into a rising stock, no dollar averaging down for his trading model. This market is roaring, for how long i haven't the foggiest. Through a dart at a stock and...

    Dont you just hate that?

haha i would agree with you that FA is a total pain. Not just that its not as 'sexy' as trading, you are also not very popular at social gatherings (no hot tips, use time periods in years rather than quick bucks). Is it worth it, in my opinion definately, its where the big bucks can be made...

    Dont you just hate that?

PE together with PEG is one of the most important valuation tools. Sure using historical PE is old data, but this is where the business model comes into play. How consistent are the earnings, how stable is the earnings model. A reasonably consistent earnings stream, together with a stable...

    Dont you just hate that?

This is exactly the strategy i do, but it requires patience. You have to wait for Mr Market to wake up to your thought process and Mr Market is fickle he can move all over different sectors. Also in a bullish market, Mr market is also more happy to 'buy the dream' rather than concentrate on...

    Dont you just hate that?

try being a client of a full service broker. Since i started entering the australian market on a significant scale in 2008 i have spent around $40K on brokerage. My broker also receives a cut of my margin loan which probably makes another $10k or so. So in 18 months from just one client $50k...

    Dont you just hate that?

just got my afternoon 'envelope' of stuff happening. Something i didnt know: Re telstra: An important item of information to emerge from the government’s draft legislation was the timeline under which TLS would be required to undertake structural separation proceedings. The government has...

    Dont you just hate that?

My understanding is foxtel can be kept as part of telstra retail so long as structural seperation of the wholesale division occurs. Basically the government offered two choices: structural: ie complete offspine Some other word: basically ring fencing or chinese walls, but kept within telstra...

    Dont you just hate that?

Last night i wrote to Robert Gottliebson and Alan Khohler at the Business Spectator outlining a potential game strategy for Telstra. Now normally i dont bother doing this, but with $200k odd of capital at stake its time to do my bit for the 'marketing bandwagon'. Anyway basically i proposed...

    Dont you just hate that?

By the way my ramblings are just an opinion from an investment point of view (and as part of a diversified portfolio) To the traders out there, as Evan says, the trend is your friend, and i dont think the trend for Telstra is very friendly. I am quite happy to wait several years if need be...

    Dont you just hate that?

The degree to which public sentiment can hammer stock is directly related to the extent the public 'liked' the stock before the change in sentiment. Nobody has liked Telstra since the start of this decade. Not just the short term trend, but the long term trend has also been down. Therefore...

    Dont you just hate that?

Do you mean as a trade or as an investment. As an investment, there is alot of uncertainty due to the government. Is this relevant? yes i think so, but the share price is definitely, at least partially, discounted to reflect this uncertainty. Whether its sufficient i dont know. I went...

    Dont you just hate that?

And here is another problem: since when did you last see gold, treasuries and equities ALL GO UP AT THE SAME TIME. Something has to give, which one will be it.

i appreciate your views. Evan your views make sense because you are a trader. Just make sure that some of these new commer traders understand fully the game, especially the risks about dollar averaging down. Williar you are spot on mate. If i was running an ungeared portfolio i would be...

    Dont you just hate that?

Another headache for both traders and investors, every professional investor around the globe agree that the market has run too hard, and needs a pull back. If it doesnt then the risk of a more severe pull back in the future increases. However one headache is that if the market does pull...

The euro/yen is an indication of the carry trade. If yen appreciates, it means risk appetitie is declining. Also look at the range, if we are nearing a top or bottom/ a reversal MAY becoming. This is just an indicator, but i use it when assessing my margin debt positions.

another heads up, keep an eye on the yen/eruo cross to give an indiciation of global risk taking.
