Liberals - policies may cause a recession??

Perthguy, I understand where you're coming from, and I sort of agree. The bill is less likely to pass now than in 2012, because there are more Lib/Nat members, and they have to vote no. A majority of Labor MP's voted for the bill in 2012, although not all, as is their right with a conscience...

Liberals - policies may cause a recession??

No, it wouldn't. Labor had 72 of 150 lower house seats, and less than 50% of the senate.

Liberals - policies may cause a recession??

I don't doubt Ms Plibersek believes in these changes to the marriage act. But she almost must know that if PM Abbott refuses to allow his members a conscience vote, it is doomed to fail. He refused when in opposition, he's less likely to allow it now. Why not wait and introduce the bill when...

Liberals - policies may cause a recession??

It wasn't voted down by Labor, it was voted down by the parliament. It was voted down while Labor was in government, but they didn't have a majority in either house. Some Labor MP's voted for it, some against. But I agree it's a tactic. There 's no chance of it passing in the current parliament.

Liberals - policies may cause a recession??

From a purely economic point of view, DA will cost billions, and is diametrically opposed to the small government mantra. It's a dog of an idea, and I wonder if it will ever become law. If the best part of a policy is that 'it can easily be abandoned', then it's probably not a great policy.

Liberals - policies may cause a recession??

Huh? You are so focussed on kicking Labor that you are missing the whole point of my posts. The NAB survey shows business confidence has improved. I concede that. What impact has that confidence had on the economy? Four fifths of **** all. Unemployment is up. The increase in...

Liberals - policies may cause a recession??

I wasn't blaming either party for the thousands of job losses listed, merely pointing out that these large employers have no increase in confidence since September. All those decisions were made post election, even if they had been coming for years. (For the pedants, Ford made their decision...

Liberals - policies may cause a recession??

In my humble opinion, I'd put that down to the minority government, and the job Abbott did as opposition leader, rather than Labor per se.

Liberals - policies may cause a recession??

I agree to a point. They have only been in 6 months and it takes a while to get anything done in politics. However, we heard on this forum from Weg and others that the business community would be instantly buoyed by the change in government, and business confidence would go through the roof...
