negative gearing review by Govt - what is the status??

Dude, there's no need to shout. Why are you getting so angry and defensive? I understand you have a different point of view to me. I just don't agree. Again, I want to stress my point. If you don't build a house, you don't provide a house. You just take over ownership of a house that's already...

negative gearing review by Govt - what is the status??

Hi LA, I totally agree - and I think that is the whole point of removing the tax incentive for existing properties. If the property investment returns so little that people won't do it without a tax benefit, it means the money is better invested elsewhere - like in a productive business...

negative gearing review by Govt - what is the status??

I've got lots of ideas for making money under the current rules. But I think the current rules are not fair or equitable. I truly believe NG for existing properties is a waste of money and is just capitalised into prices. Use the $8bn to give everyone a tax cut - or invest in education and...

negative gearing review by Govt - what is the status??

I'm not saying property should be any different. I don't think allowing people to offset ANY investment losses against personal income is a good use of taxpayers money. The losses should be retained and set against future profits. If the investment never turns a profit, why should taxpayers...

negative gearing review by Govt - what is the status??

Hi Jodie, I think it's a great decision to build a house - and you are completely entitled to tax benefits for doing so. Building new houses ensures our housing supply keeps up with population growth and helps keep rents stable. It also employs builders and helps the economy. It's reasonable...

negative gearing review by Govt - what is the status??

Delighted to have people use a company structure. You can't set company losses against your own personal income to get a nice tax refund. The company actually has to make money on its own merits - without government assistance.

negative gearing review by Govt - what is the status??

Hi LA, Buying an existing home will not relieve the rental squeeze! You offer it to a tenant and add one to the supply of rental properties. But by buying the house, you prevented an OO from living there. That OO must now continue to rent, and adds one to the demand for rental properties...

negative gearing review by Govt - what is the status??

LA, unless you built a house, you didn't provide anything. You just took over ownership of a house which someone else provided, and bid up the price in the hope someone else would do the same from you. You can see it provides no economic benefit to this country, except to real estate agents.
