Try looking at Social Atlas. The data is a few years old so I would say most areas have less housing commission now than is shown but it gives you an idea. Select the council area you want to look at and go into map selector, housing tenure, rent social housing.

I think you're best checking out the suburbs you can actually afford and go with the nicest out of them. Forget reviews because everyone is looking for something different. You can't really judge an area until you drive there, get out of the car, walk the streets and go to the local shops...
