BV & Pinkboy, Just curious. Were these applicants on Centerlink benefits. According to the TV, they are required to apply for 20 jobs a month...maybe they were scared they may actually get one.

I'm sure a $20 investment to buy a pack would be well worth it, if you are trying to not hire a smoker. Smokers, as a group, are less healthy, and cost employers more money. Taking more smoke breaks and sick days. Don't get your undies in a bunch, Pinkboy :D

Have a package of cigarettes nearby, and offer them one, and stick one in your mouth. If they don't smoke, just take the cig back out..and say you're trying to quit. Smokers rarely decline :)

Property Girl, Most of people here are pencil pushers. They have never worked a physical job in their life...working in a factory as a labourer would be beneath them. Now if you asked them, if they hired a plumber by the hour, and they watched him constantly playing on his phone instead...

If I remember correctly, from previous threads/posts, SS's who are employees have justified their posting from work, by claiming they always work extra hard, when they are working :) ...paraphrasing , of course. But I'm with you PG, I would consider it a form of stealing.

The employer should have all the control, when it is their finances on the line. The employee is free to get a job elsewhere, or start up their own business.

You're absolutely right. However, the individual needs to work hard the first 5-20 years of their working life, and then they can retire...and get paid for not 'working'. The problem? People are not willing to put in the work, to accomplish this.

Bayview, Don't be too hard on yourself. Even if you think you are only treading water at times, your head still seems to be consistantly above the water. Many people go thru hard times and they look back on it with satisfaction,of their determination.
