Offered 6% 3yr fixed by the NAB today in general discussion with a branch manager ... but (okay, so I know them personally) was advised to hold off for a couple of months for sub-6. This is not gospel advice ... but I wasn't going to fix unless they were sub-6 anyhow, so no skin off my nose...

Wow - how did you miss it? I missed the two weeks of 4.99% because we were in the process of settling - but immediately leapt on the 5.19%. Can't be slow or indecisive when these low rates are on offer.

Don't worry Ajax - we were one of the ones paying 18% and remember it well, although as it was our first mortgage we knew no different at the time ... which is why current rates don't stress us and we can logically take advantage when they bottom-ish.

Over the last 15 years I've noticed the peak/peak bottom/bottom cycles tend to go in approximately 3 year cycles ... the last bottom was just under 3 years ago. I'm still sitting with a couple at 5.19% ... coming off April 2012.

There's a difference? Last dozen times I've fixed, it's been the same rate weither IO or PI - but you do have to pay a couple of hundred dollars fixing fee

I've got two on variable - and two on the fix ... I'll be jumping with the variables too when the time is right. Just hoping rates are still low when the fixed comes off as they are my two bigger loans.
