The problem is that most of the parents don't have the skills to teach financial literacy because they are no better than their kids at understanding. Parents teach what they know - and if they don't know they can't teach - some even struggle to teach their kids how to spell and form a verbal...

... and responsible for their own choices. Unfortunately so many are not.

haha - I am so non-computer. Did I mean GB or something? Whatever it was, they usually come with 4 and I got upgraded to 8 ... :D As for lending to family. I don't mind lending for the young'uns to buy their first car - but the rules is that they have to pay it back, on a regular basis...

I bought a new one via ebay for less than $500 ... and it was upgraded to 8mb ram for free.

Interesting article in today's local paper today ... about how in the USA/UK (and I guess Australia) the belief that the ability to buy "toys" equates to "success" - whereas in many other European countries "happiness" equates to "success". This was shown by interviews with poverty level UK...
