Pretty sure its not the fruit that is expensive. Its all the labour costs associated with handling the fruit all the way to your table.

Sounds like the author had one to many tequilla shots :P Agreed with general article though, it is expensive here, but we have it good. May be cheaper to live in America for instance, but i'd be absolutely miserable in a city like LA.
