Hmmm , 22k ... that's quite a bit of a saving . I'd be interested to hear what your normal supplier has to say when you tell him  I won't be using any more urea until about April next year and hopefully prices will be back about 50% . Another thing I read about in the weekly times...

It was running beef cattle and dairy, with massive amounts of irrigation. There were 14 individual dairy units, and some were leased to other farmers. I counted 40 of these wind turbines. The turbines had a 60 metre span! The farm is owned by New Zealand interests. I think it's called Tasman...

Yes , the trouble with these big corporate farms is that they rely heavily on the manager to get it right but at the end of the day it's not his money on the line so the commitment and attention to detail just isn't there IMHO . A way around that is possibly to sell the manager/key person an...

Nice tractor TC . Yes , I'm very jealous :p I wonder , did you consider other brands such as Case or Claas etc ? I'm reading in the paper today that locally some cropper types are keeping a part of their canola to produce their own biodiesel . Have you looked into that ? I don't think I...

Yes I agree OO . There wasn't a contrast offered with farmers who were doing things differently to bring about success . I thought it was quite negative and produced to show farmers as drongos . As some surely are eh ? So OO , are many of the croppers up that way still ploughing and doing...

The big issue for feed grains seems the gap that has opened between wheat and barley/sorgum of around 100/tonne . A lot of dairyfarmers will have excluded wheat from their rations by now based on that and perhaps also be looking at triticale and oats maybe ...certainly don't want to be panic...

Yes , some of that hedging stuff takes a bit of understanding doesn't it ? There are courses that you can do but i havn't bothered to commit myself . Some of my collegues have and seem to have a good grasp of it all . Sounds like you must have stocked up big time on roundup eh? I'm only a...

900 / tonne for sunflower I think i read in the paper . Hmmm not bad income . I knew I'd be jealous :) Do you use the roundup ct extra product or the generic glysofate stuff ? It's all gone up heaps as you would know . I stocked up on the generic as this is all i could get a little while ago...

With some of the prices being paid for quality farm land over there it just seems to me to be a bit over the top . I mean , I look what 8 million will buy me here... Probably a 1000 cow operation or close to it with some irrigation thrown in . I think you are right . We may well see some...

They only talk in terms of kilo's of milk solids, so I wasn't familiar with some things. We should really be talking milksolids here to as that is how we are paid but its all fat + protein etc with litres/cow which is all the same thing really . I saw one farm advertised in the...

Nice Post Very interesting TC . Some great photos there . A neighbour of mine gave me a NZ farming magazine recently which has a few dairy farms for sale and the cheapest one listed is over 4 million . Thats just the land of course, so you will also need to work out the funding for stock...

Family farms I to think there will always be family farms . The idea of a bunch of landed gentry does nothing for me :( I cannot imagine having to pay a lease to a tosser like prince charles... Isn't that why many of our forebears came out here because of a hatred of the class system in Britain...

How is dairying going at the moment ? Well , the answer to that is that is it is doing ok... I buy a finished feed through a merchant and the monthly bill is rather more than I would like , however , there is still plenty of cash left over so I'm not too frazzled :D It has been a...

Yes , no wonder they stuffed their backs up in the old days . TC if I had an axle like that poking out , one of my workers would have widened several gateways by now :p How's the progress going with the planting ? Shawn

Nice photo Hi TC Great set up you have there . I was wondering why you have the duels off the back wheels ? Anyway 800 ha, that is a lot of planting to get done . Do you ever employ someone to drive ? Every week I get a comprehensive hay and grain report from dairyaustralia which is...
