Living off Equity - is this still an option?

As long as people make simplistic statements without qualification and expect them to be accepted without comment we'll keep going around. :) Why ? See Jo's Quote I guess my conservatism with respect to investing comes from early childhood memories of watching quite a few of my parents...

Living off Equity - is this still an option?

I'd say it depends ..... Depends on returns Depends on outside income / servicability Depends on stage of the cycle Depends on where the properties are ( eg I would not want a 10 mil portfolio bought in rocky at this stage ....) Lots of Factors As with much of the debate on...

Living off Equity - is this still an option?

Mark It is relevant because you have a financial interest in a product you could be seen as promoting. :o Knowing you've been a valuable contributor to the forum for a long period I'd be suprised if it actually changes what you say , but regardless of that, perceptions are very...

Living off Equity - is this still an option?

Great honest post Alan Maybe if every one involved in these debates refrain from using emotive language (Bill's not the only one who gets over enthusiastic at times ) :o :o the forum will benifit from the continuing involvement of People like Steve & Dale ( who I noticed recently posted...

Living off Equity - is this still an option?

Steve I can understand your anger at the post Bill made which triggered you decision to leave and I said so at the time. To be honest I was suprised Bill wasn't banned from the forum at that stage, however you have said yourself that his questioning of your methods in the past have made you...

Living off Equity - is this still an option?

Steve I'm not aware that the so called " Doom & Gloomers " you refer to have been suggesting that people don't invest :) See Change

Living off Equity - is this still an option?

I don't see why you need to commit. For me flexibility is important. Given that we don't know what is going to happen in the future , to commit to one plan for the next x years is one of my concerns. I like to think of my investment plan as a tool box. I have some tools in there that I've...

Living off Equity - is this still an option?

Sorry if I confused you Simon. Think we're discussing semantics and we probably both have better things to do with our time. Bill I'm glad someone has more enthusiasm and time for this debate than I do :D . Nice post. See Change

Living off Equity - is this still an option?

Simon , I know when I've been involved in these debates in the past I've had no problems with how you structure your investing , but I felt frustrated when you defended LOE and then used you structure to defend it. Maybe Investing of Equity ( IOE ) would be a more descriptive term :)...

Living off Equity - is this still an option?

Duncan , in all the debates I've seen on LOE , that's the best reason I've heard for doing it.... :D .... But that's not the normal justification. See Change

This has been my concern and we've recently seen an example where a bank has changed how they treat income from annuities. See Change

Living off Equity - is this still an option?

I agree with you Les. It might work , but it could also go pear shape, and if it does you could be in deep do do when the market is at it's worst. I think there are safer ways to invest. I think there is a role for IOE ( Investing on Equity ) inparticular coming out of the market slump , but...

Living off Equity - is this still an option?

Biance There have been several " Mega Threads " about LOE and a variation on the theme with Cash bonds in the past . I think you will find that several of the people who posted on the negative side of this debate have no interest whatsoever of repeating their previous comments . So if you...
