Do you take race into account when making decision on tenant?

Good post HiEquity. Above is what I believe a lot of people are focusing on in this thread. Whilst I agree in theory, an investment property IS about money, for me anyway - it IS a purely economic decision. Why risk cashflow by renting to one group over another if it's not necessary? I...

Do you take race into account when making decision on tenant?

Can only speak for myself, but I don't see myself as racist. I judge individuals within a race on their own merits. For example I've had/have a few aboriginal clients who are fantastic people, always nice to talk with when they came in. To them I would have absolutely no problem renting one of...

Do you take race into account when making decision on tenant?

You're right Sash, but when it comes down to me and my few properties - why should I take the risk? Especially when there are other people willing to rent it. Now if I was the Govt. I would have no choice, but I have the luxury of saying "nope, too risky." That's the advice I would give to...

Do you take race into account when making decision on tenant?

In my example - the aboriginal applicants would'nt have been interviewed in the first place, yes this I'll grant you. This is due to my experience seeing what they have done to houses. By no means am I saying they all do that, but a vast number do - enough for me not to even let my PM's deal...

Do you take race into account when making decision on tenant?

Of course if they pay their rent and treat the place well, I wouldn't have a problem either. The problem is amongst some races, these sorts of tenants will be few and far between, and you won't know that until it's too late. So why take a chance when you know there's a much higher than average...

Do you take race into account when making decision on tenant?

In your example Jaycee, I would dismiss one group out of hand - not worth finding out if they happen to be the few good apples amongst a bad barrel. The other applicants would be checked by my PM's, and I would trust their opinion if they say 'yes' or wait for someone 'else.'

Do you take race into account when making decision on tenant?

I couldn't care less about shoes in the house. My feelings are towards people who completely destroy houses.

Do you take race into account when making decision on tenant?

The first conversation I ever had with my PM I told her about a certain group of people I would not accept in my properties. She replied that she doesn't allow them either. To all those that think it's a strange poll or a stupid/outrageous question - is it because you haven't seen any major...

Do you take race into account when making decision on tenant?

Politically correct answer, "no." Real life answer, "yes." Although I can only think of two race exceptions I would have off hand.
