Then the community should either get a lot more educated, or simply leave the sentencing to the experts. Seriously, I don't try and tell other professionals what to do - but somehow everyone thinks they can do better than Magistrates/Judges?

Its like criminology 101 that harsher sentences don't work to reduce crime. Criminology 201 says there's a considerable body of evidence to say it actually increases levels of crime in the community.

Because increasing sentences works to reduce crime right?
