The staff cuts in May was for offices in Sydney, Melbourne and UK (pretty much half was sacked in London). The one happening as I type is in WA. Although reports suggests the senior staff has been made redundant, but the people I know who got laid off at RIO are definately not senior.

Yes, RIO has started its round of redundancy. Some departments has been told already with letters given, but its still going on. Not sure of the extent yet. Rumour has it that BHP will start another round of restructure (ie redundancy in the second half of the year).
