    whats happening to australia?

penny k, Some parenting is bad parenting but in many cases it's simply nice parents unknowingly using ineffective parenting skills. My parents have been friends with a family for years. A caring, quietly spoken couple with 3 fairly polite but passive daughters. One of their daughters...

    whats happening to australia?

My view and experiences too. I've actually used the child dog anaolgy and had some strange stares. Children really are like putty in your hands and how they turn out is up to you. The thing is you need to have some insight yourself .

Ok.. even I say so, but not in earshot, for fear of getting abused ;).

And the problem extends to society who are starting to accepted their voice as valid, and make excuse for them also . It seems like problems are never caused by parents, and if you believe they are, you don't dare say so.

    whats happening to australia?

I don't have statistics but some crimes have increased significantly and I'm sure the ER stats would support the changing face of violence that's fuelled by drugs and alcohol, especially on weekends. I have a 17yo and I worry when he goes to parties he's invited to on weekends. For some...

That's good to hear. I'm far from supporting the softly softly approach, but hitting indiscriminately or inflicting pain is primitive and can often achieve the opposite to what you're trying to teach.

    whats happening to australia?

When it comes to children I put more blame on the parents than I do the law and school. Schools are struggling to implement the softest of discipline now, for fear of having the parents abuse and threaten them. In other cases if young Kaydee or Rryse aren't singled out as special the...

    whats happening to australia?

For a clearer picture of the most common crimes and what's behind some of the more serious ones, a look at your state government court site is a must. The 'Judges remarks/findings' gives the offenders background and upbringing in the Supreme and District court cases, and the 'case list' shows...

    whats happening to australia?

I've heard this one all too often and my experience with thousands of families with criminal offspring is that this is not the case. If anything in the large majority someone is home, and many have both parents at home all of the time. It's the quality/effectivenss of the parenting, what's...

    whats happening to australia?

The story about the 12yo is terribly sad and it does make you wonder. I think some crimes have increased and overall there seems to be less accountability. Other than the Judge, it seems no one is allowed to judge or repremand a person incase they breach the law or break PC rules :confused...
