Qld politicians get a 35% pay rise

Not at all irrelevant when it shows not all PS workplaces have a cut off of 100K as Tigger keeps insisting. It's only unusual in that it hasn't got a lot of admin and ancillary staff - not what politicians should be compared to anyway. And I would hardly say teachers and nurses earn...

Qld politicians get a 35% pay rise

The power would come from knowing you would be in a better position than most to make a difference/changes. Naturally with that would come a passion for politics, and an ideology. With many in the Labor Party, often it's a natural progression from union official to politician, but the...

Qld politicians get a 35% pay rise

The workplace is only unusual because almost everyone has a degree, have raked up many years of service, with the majority of staff upgraded to higher classification levels than the roles would normally command (don't understand why this was funded but staff were encouraged to apply for the...

Qld politicians get a 35% pay rise

Tigger, QLD employs 2400 chief and senior executives in their PS. Like i stated in another post, many of my PS colleagues earn what a backbencher earns (mostly before the rise with some after). Others I work with earn what a state premier earns, with one earning closer to what Abbott earns.

Qld politicians get a 35% pay rise

I haven't looked up the upper incomes of the various professional awards in QLD -the vast majority of politicians would have degrees- but I somehow don't think many at all would be on 100K tops. It's only those politicials who have no tertiary qualifications who would be raking it in at 133K pa.

Qld politicians get a 35% pay rise

I am aware of that but i also emphasised that they earned less than their federal counterparts. So not the best example in trying to highlight to Tigger that Newman's income, as the highest position in QLD politics, is not exhorbitant and that other politicians don't necessarily make anywhere...

Qld politicians get a 35% pay rise

My comparison was with state politicians. The highest position is Newman's who is being paid well below that of Departmental Head - the DH income being more in line with that of Abbott's salary.

Qld politicians get a 35% pay rise

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Public_Service Tigger, note that those pay scales are for 2011, so you could easily add another 10 to 15% onto those figures. SES Band 2 to Departmental Head salaries WOULD add up to 'many'. Remember too, there are those not on that scale, who...

Qld politicians get a 35% pay rise

There are many extremely talented people out there -who would make ideal politicians- already earning salaries much bigger than politicians could ever hope to earn. Unless these are already very comfortably off why would they take massive pay cuts to enter politics? Why there are so many...

Qld politicians get a 35% pay rise

There is no corruption here. If people want to get riled up over salaries then they need to look at the many public servants who earn more than the politicians, ie. Mark Scott, boss of the ABC, earns a base salary of $678,940.
