    Interestingly, my mother chose an agent to market and sell her own home. She knew this particular agent would negotiate and get her a good price. And most people would not put their heads in an oven, just because someone told them to, or "conditioned" them to do so.

    That is not what I am talking about. I thought you were getting at the old story that they would get the vendor to pay $500 for an advert, but they would get the advert for say $400 because of volume discounts, and pocket the rest. If this happened in the past, I believe that it does not happen...

    I believe that these days any advertising kickbacks or discounts that would benefit the agent at the expense of the vendor have gone the way of the dodo. Perhaps one of our agents can confirm this.
