    In Queensland, according to the RTA the landlord checks the smoke alarm and changes batteries at the start of each lease and at renewal.

    I would guess that until it is written into the legislation, then testing by pressing the "test" button is all that is required. We always looked after this for our IPs until a few months ago. I hate paying for something that I can do myself, but now I've moved everything to Smoke Alarm...
