$17K - which car ?

Go for the wedding and remember marriage is an investment just like property. Take the time to look after it and you will reap the rewards but neglect it and you may end up with the tenant from hell as some here may have experienced.

boods99,

What did the 8 roughly set you back?

Roughly 37K on-road, but that was about 3 years ago. Only had 19,000kms on the clock.

Not a bad price for oz. Never ceases to amaze me the mark up price the import dealers put on their cars. How do they justify the new GT at 180K when it probably would cost them way less than 100K to land.

the site I looked at seemed to just charge a brokerage fee - not that i have really looked into any of it in too much detail as I only recently bought a car. If I hadn;t I think i woul dhave gone down this path

Ausprop,

Many places advertise they just do brokerage but there are a lot of add on fees. They normally make extra money through doing the compliance. What car did you just buy? WA prices are amongst the highest in the country for imported vehicles.

Problem is you can't bring them in anymore as the don't qualify with the SEVS rules as Nissan Australia have started bringing them in.
The $180K is brand new from NA, Aussie delivered.
Nissan wont even service a grey import, which is a bit of a pain as you need specialised equipment to do so. There is a couple of mobs over east that play with them but I'm not sure if they have access to all the service and technical info, scan tools, etc.

so Boods are you saying to stay away from such vehicles, even 2 or 3 years old? my accountant bought one recently.

I went for an audi TT, was punting on a decline in the aud against the euro at the time. world has changed a lot in 6 months hey? i brought it over from canberra, the local dealers are shockers - if you ask a euro dealer in perth for their best price they hand you the price brochure

boods99,

One importer has RAWS approval but I think for 25 under the low import rule but not sure. I will probably bring mine in under the 1 yr personal import rule.

Not hard to get the tech knowledge required and there are quite a few already on the racing circuit so not that hard to find someone with knowledge.

Will be interesting to see if Nissan Australia has the Launch Control void warranty clause like they do in the states?

Ausprop,

TT not a bad vehicle. Drop off a bit in value once a few years old.

Hi Ausprop

How is the Audi going? Great cars but my aversion to buying one in Perth is that there is only one dealer - and he knows it! If you need to get it serviced...

Not really saying stay away from them, however you just have to be careful as getting them fixed, and serviced etc can be quite difficult without access to the required tools and info. For example, the tyres are filled with nitrogen instead of regular air, engines and gearboxes are matched and cant be interchanged, the list is quite extensive.

Nissan Australia are refusing to service and sell parts for grey imports. Also, there are only approx 11 Nissan Dealers that are equipped to service the R35 in the whole of Australia.

Yeah, you're lucky as you are living in Japan and can make use of the personal import rule.
I heard somewhere that the lauch control for Aussie delivered R35s has been disabled? Can't remember where I heard that though

Its pretty good but then again i dont really use it and really shouldnt have bought it. for the few thousand k's I drive I should hav bought a getz! the dealer threw in the first few years of servicing, so thats one less expense. part of audi corporate plan or something....

hmm that's disturbing - I didnt see that when i initially researched. I have always done very well on resales, my nissan 200sx i sold off after 3 years for not much less than i bought it for. Can you elaborate please? i.e. what do you call a few years?

try pricing a new auto gearbox, fitted.

wouldnt go there WW, that's why I generally get rid of my cars as they hit the warranty expiry. I am probably going to break that rule with the CX7 tho as I just love it and there is no need to change it, other than to go to the CX9.

Ausprop,

Over here the drop more than 50% after about 3-4 years.

Boods99,

Yes very lucky being in Japan when it comes to driving and owning cars.

Nissan Australia might find themselves in a little bit of trouble if they refuse to service grey imports. Dept fair trading and practices takes a very dim view of dealers who try that scam. As for parts it is normally a lot cheaper to order parts directly from Japan rather than going through Australian dealers.

Here's a list of the most fuel efficient cars in Australia...

http://au.lifestyle.yahoo.com/b/autos/170/whats-the-most-fuel-efficient-car-in-australia/

Corolla's and Camry's nowhere to be seen.

Not sure about the servicing costs of the cars in that list.

Some of them should be available at your price range, new or used.

I've owned both a Corolla Seca and a T18. Both went forever, and cost little. Thank god; I was mostly broke all the time back then.

We drove one of those hybrid Camry's a couple of years ago from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon and back - about 4.5 hours each way from memory.

It was awesome; 450 miles (about 720kms) to a tank, and it was great to drive. I would own one, but it's too nerdy and "nanna".

Gotta go for the cool looking w@nkmobile that guzzles, don't we? :D

Bayview,

I'm assuming the 'Gotta go for the cool looking w@nkmobile that guzzles, don't we? was tongue in cheek. Definitely gotta love the guzzlers. My RR only gets 4klm/litre.

I drove a camry last year when i was looking to buy a car for about 17k and i found it the single most boring car i had ever driven.
LOL... The idea that driving a car can be "boring" or "not boring" would never occur to me... I'm so not a car person.
I've owned both a Corolla Seca and a T18.
Me too! I loved my 1981 T-18, which I drove 1993-1995. It was a ripper! And every time I got it serviced the mechanics would comment on what a great car the T-18 was. :)
