A fair quote for motor-bike insurance?

I was thinking of David with this Q but there may be other bikers around.

Took delivery of my Triumph Bonneville (800cc) yesterday but was shocked at the quote for comprehensive insurance from AAMI. with whom I have my other insurances. I have "rating 5 for life" but they still want almost $1k for insurance.

Are there other companies more "sympathetic" to bikers?

Thommo

Do you mean rating 1 for life? If it's the same as for cars, a rating 5 is pretty crappy and I would understand the quote.

Comprehensive insurance can be expensive, depending on the value of the bike.

Try QBE Insurance.

They have a section that specialises in motorcycle insurance. They have good rates for motorcycle insurance.

Cheers,

Yes, I can remember using QBE for a while. Think they are very competitive.
Most others wouldnt touch me, as I was young, with a big bike, but they still insured me and cheaper than most.

well done thommo,800cc bonney, you dont need insurance.
just walk into the local chapter of the local outlaw motorcyle club,
and they will look after everything.
enjoy the ride..

I changed my avatar to my motorbike. Time for a bit of a change.

A greenslip for this bike costs $400 per year with QBE.

Enjoy the rides with the Triumph. :)

Cheers,

Go Thommo. Bonny's are a legend. Had a string of Trophy's, never fluked a Bonny, wish I had. Try asking the local chapter of Ulysses, they'd know a sympathetic insurer. You might like to join while you're there.
safe trips.

You won't find much in common between today's Bonny and the old ones. At least I hope not the oil leaks. It is still a parallel, air cooled twin though with a retro look and the famous badges on the tank. But it's NOT a Hog nor a Japanese immitation. :p

Didn't mention that this is the America with higher bars, forward pegs and a longer wheelbase. It's been a long time and I'm still nervous in traffic. I'll get over it. LOL

A general comment -

The next time that an insurance company quotes (what you percieve to be) an exhorbitant amount for (whatever kind of) insurance, smile, say thanks but no thanks, and move onto the next insurer...

... and be thankful they didn't refuse you insurance.

Insureds (the insured) are required (by law) to disclose to the insurer all details relevant to the risk being insured and having being refused insurance is a big deal and it can make getting suitable cover very difficult.

Quoting what appears to be an "unfair" premium is often a polite way of an insurer saying that "we dont really want to insure you, but rather than refusing you insurance, we will quote you a small fortune".

Mark :)

btw. Thommo, enjoy the Triumph but watch out for the Queenslanders on the road. ;)

Try Swann Insurance, a division of CGU.

My Moto Guzzi Cali insured for market value, about $15K, cost around $500.

The bonny is a classic bike, I can remember my elder brother riding these in the sixties.
We were going for a drive in the country last weekend, down this straight stretch, and he told me it was the spot where one of his mates, who was a pillion passenger, went to sleep and fell off the back of his other mates bonny and went bouncing down the road. Youch. Fortunately they were returning from a local country pub on friday night , after a "few" beers, and his mates relaxed state helped minimise the injuries. No real damage, just a few bruises.

Motorbike insurance

I agree with Garry ... definately try Swan Insurance. Motorbike specialists, and I found them to be much cheaper than the mainstream insurers (NRMA, AAMI, GIO etc). Either contact them directly or go through a motorcycle dealer for a brochure.

This may be a bit late but I C Frith and Associates (1800 649 797) have an over 40's policy more suited to recreational use ie. not commuting to work every day, and locked up at night etc, so would probably suit you.

I have a recent model 1200cc bike insured with them for $527.

I just scrape into the over 40's ;)

Enjoy the rides.
