aaarggh!! my hair is sooo dry!!

I wouldn't be so quick to brush off the bull semen suggestion. You know all the rumours about that stuff - good for the skin and all that.

Maybe talk to your husband :D

I also have dry hair, wash once a week and find a daily leave in moisturiser is good. Invest in a good brand - ask a hair dresser or go into one of those shops that specialises in shampoos and conditioners. You have to get the right one for your hair as some of them are too heavy and leave your hair too oily. I have just bought David Jones shampoo and conditioner (on special $12.95 for a litre bottle) and it has been the best I have used in a long time. Every time my hair feels dry I just use some daily moisturiser and it helps. Beware Pantene as I have heard it is silicone based and can build up on your hair with detrimental effect over time.

Good Luck and look after those golden locks!

Diane

I was not going to get involved with this thread but, like a moth to a flame, I was drawn.

So I hope post No 23 is as informative as those preceding. LOL

I am at the tail end of the baby boomers
I have fine hair but lots of it
It is just above shoulder length
As mentioned it is very coloured
My grandmother used homemade stout on her hair with a mix of olive oil
she always had good soft hair til the day she passed away,at least if it does not work you get to drink the stout..imho..willair..

If anyone can recommend something that works really well for them be it the shampoo, conditioner or a treatment of some kind I will be very grateful :):)

stop coloring it with artificial colours for 6 months
cut some of it off
use henna
use special hair masks
wash only once a week
macadamia oil masks

Thank you to everyone, there has been some fantastic ideas and I am sure not just me will be trying them out.

So at our forum you can get help on just about anything:):)

I actually have the opposite problem - my hair is too oily. However, I have learned that the oiliness can actually some from a Silicone-like ingredient in shampoos and conditioners. This ingredient is uaully called "Dimethicone" or as a rule of thumb, anything ending in "cone" usually has a siliconey substance to it.

Normally this is fairly bad for your hair, and takes a long time to strip out (if your hair gets too oily and heavy) but for dry hair it works very well to hydrate it.
You can usually find this ingredient in products like Pantene etc...

some nit advice added in ...

i've got blonded hair and always use a leave in moisturising spray with sun protection - which seems to work really well.

with junior i put the pantene detangling in her hair which also moisturises it. it do this (even tho she doesn't colour) because years ago there was a terrible problem at the preschool with nits - driving me mad as i was having to treat her hair every week. a friend mentioned putting a quick squirt of aeroguard (or a similar insect repellent) in her hair when i brush it each morning ... never had nits since.

but the insect repellent does make the hair dry - hence the leave in moisturiser for her too.

Shannon Lush advises pouring orange juice through the hair for nits. I like the non-chemical stuff but haven't had to try anything for a while.

I also buy Natural Instinct from the chemist for chemical free, natural shampoo, conditioner, body wash, cleanser etc. Maybe worth a try.

Hairdressers do hate Pantene; because of the coating of silicone but I suspect sales of their 'product' have decreased as soon as Pantene arrived in the market. Herbal essences products are good for my hair - I find Pantene makes it too greasy. Which probably means they are good for dry hair! And Delva products (an oldie) are also excellent but again, my hair gets oily too quickly for them.

And not going into the Brazilian discussion, at all!

kms have an excellent range of hair products and they are NOT tested on animals..
so do matrix..

i use both ranges for either curling my hair, or straightening it.. different coloured bottles for both.. :)

and yes, pantene does coat the hair.. not good long term, especially for people who are prone to frizz
