Any Polishing FBs expert here?

Hi dreamgirl,

The 2 quotes i've had are for water based product with 3 coats.
Total area is 35sqm's with some floorboards needing replacing.
So to date the 2 quotes i've had have been at 900$ and 1400$.
2 quotes to go,so i'll see what they produce.

Cheers Spades.

$900 is pretty cheap, $1400 is in the higher end of the range depending on how involved the repairs are.

Continuing on this thread, but with a diff twist

had pre finished engineered timber installed, Sika glued to slab

Was an average job to say the least

had product manufacturer inspect, and only real soln was to sand to level and refinish.

installer aggreed to that, 2 pack waterbased PolyCure, this finish doesnt doesnt lend itself to high builds, so we have a rough and partially "porous" floor right throughout.

Only real soln looks to be either rip out and start from scratch, or another light sand and try a polyurethane solvent based product which will provide for a higher build.

Ideas?

I really dont want to end up at QCAT, but looking more and more likely

Even high build polyurethane clear at 1000um will probably crack or at least sheer with movement. If you can lightly sand those lips out then you might get away with it. Will definitely fill those natural voids in the timber.

Tradie not coming back?

Rolf - was making a general comment about polyurethane there - not related to your issue.

Sounds difficult. from an outsider's pov, I'd get them to do it again. That's because I'm not the one that has to chase them up, threaten them, lay down the law.
But it should've been done properly the first time. Hopefully you haven't paid for it yet.

oh I just realised I never put up a photo,

here is what my final product looked like after 2 or even 3 coats, its been a while so i cant rememebr

as you can see, it is a rental but it doesnt look very good in my eyes,

it looks dull, I wanted a look like half the ones people have posted in this thread

I am about do another one, and have put an ad up on gumtree, but all the responses im getting are people who dont seem to be an expert, ie offering to do the varnish only, or sanding only, or dont have their own equipment

if I was going to end up with the same result I may as well do it myself

DIY is about $1000 inc pads, equipment hire, varnish, labour
but if I pay someone to do it, for say $1600 I would expect it look like the photos posted here,

and I used this one the last time

https://www.masters.com.au/product/...r-based-oil-modified-polyurethane-gloss-3-78l

seemed to be about 30-50% cheaper then the bunnings alternative

anyone got any pointers?
