Awnings. Yes or No?

I currently have quite dated awnings on my PPOR and Im thinking of either taking them down completely or putting a more contemporary fabric on them.

What are peoples thoughts?

my last property had them everywhere...........

pros: stops the qld sun, stop sticky beak neighbours looking in, if repainted to blend with the house they can be very appealing and often an additional selling point.

cons: spiders love then, they need to be treated every six mths or so, nightmare to paint, air gun works the best, pull each panel down, dont paint them while they are up...hopeless finish and slow, if they dont rotate they can cut down breeze into the house greatly, they tend to darken houses inside with light..depends on the house of course..

personally i like them in nth qld but they must rotate open and closed and not be fixture type..

good luck..

Too much work and maintenance for a rental - we removed them off our latest reno. However as it is your own home it is a personal decision.
