Balaclava. Wig. Baseball Bat.....How Things Work In WA

This is pretty bizarre.

A trusted senior public servant, employed at Parliament House, going for a walk in a well-heeled suburb, carrying a wig, a balaclava and a baseball bat. Old enough to know better, this guy is just too weird..

When it happens, the trial should be interesting.

As the late Robert Hughes once quipped. "Western Australian justice is to 'justice' what Western Australian culture is to 'culture'

Worth a read.

Thieves have stolen a front end loader valued at $1.2 million from the industrial area of Boodarie in South Hedland, in the state's North West.

Police say the Caterpillar 988H front end loader was stolen between March 22 and 24 and has the number 263 on the side.

The thieves would have had to use a low loader to transport the large piece of machinery.

Anyone with information in regards to the theft is asked to call South Hedland detectives

Earthmoving gear is valuable and as long as its not road registered its easy to avoid detection. Especially in mines or rail. $750K AUD min second hand. Its a baby. Parted out its worth $2.0m or more.

The bucket / blade alone is $100K-$200K minimum. No respray needed. Genuine Cat yellow is the only colour.

I was involved in civil eng and we had some large gear (not like this). Sat tracking and immobilisation was mandatory as these tools are targets. Encased in steel to buy some time. One small bobcat and tracked bucket on a float was tracked in a hour into a warehouse. It was already being dismantled when cops nabbed them. Insurer say they had probably done it 20+ time before being caught by tracked devices. Only cause we had powered GPS embedded and didn't rely on starter battery. Cost us a bit to fit but was worth it. (Embedded behind weights with a small antenna wire nobody could see)
