BEWARE: Electrical Cable

Hello All,

Iam new here and just joined and thought this may be helpful to all.

Beware of electrical cable sold in Master and Mitre 10 during the following year:

* NSW from 2010 to 2013;

* Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia in 2012 and 2013; and

* Tasmania in 2013 only.

According to the article, non-compliant electrical cable insulation can break and can cause serious fires!!!!

Possibly the moral of the story is to employ a licensed electrician because that stuff can kill ya

No, the moral of the story is to not buy cheap china ****. "Not implying all Chinese products are ****, but you get what you pay for when it's specced to hit a price point it certainly does.

Agree using a licensed sparky won't always save your butt. I have mates that are sparkies and if running down to bunnigns was quicker than going to their preferred supplier miles away for a few meters of cable then guess what your getting. That's right, bunnigns cable. If it's dodgy you now have it in your house.

I believe these types of shops should be held more accountable, chasing big profits does not justify selling cheap and poorly made products that are unsafe do not meet Aust standards.
