I don't think anyone is claiming that money is unimportant, and there are certainly many different reasons we are all trying to make some. However, I think the point some people have been trying to make is that money is not the _most_ important thing.

It pays to keep a perspective on life. If there was a choice to be made between having money and having the ones you loved, how would you choose ? What point is there in being wealthy if you have no _true_ friends to share it with.

I have had the pleasure of hearing some of the more successful people on this forum talk about the reasoning behind their goals to make money, and what they intend to do with it over the long term.

These goals are certainly a very personal and private thing, and I have felt privileged to be able to talk about these things with them and challenged by the vision they have and the dreams they are well on their way to fulfilling.

We're not talking about trivial things like 6 month around-the-world holidays or a mansion on the beach. We're talking about a vision of helping people, of making a difference, of the joy of giving.

How big are your dreams ?

6 months holidays, mansions on the beach, power tools, recreational
vehicles, servants etc :)

goodness me, I am so misunderstood.

A friend once told me, you can tell an Entrepreneur by how many times they have lost ALL their money and remade it back.

I must be only ok as an Entrepreneur, as I have only lost it all once, and remade it back double quick, life isnt all about money, but it sure is a lot nicer with a lot of money.

To many people I know have lost it all, and get so caught up in the "tortured" phase, they dont get back up and on with it. They forget to use their knowledge to make the money back again.

Oh..

It seems that we all pretty much agree then.

Damn.

I was looking forward to a good healthy swashbuckling sword fighting discussion and now it's all fizzled out.

Damn.

Money is not important, but the lack of it certainly is.

Gotta agree with TW, though, about the true entrepreneur - which I, too, cannot claim to be, having only lost it all once and now well on the way to getting it back and having a hoot of a time doing it.

But I think I'll stick to trying to keep it this time so I guess I'll never be a true entrepreneur - which is OK by me; it is such a waste of time trying to find out how the hell I am going to be able to pay the next bill that has just arrived in the post when I should be spending my time building for the future instead of playing catch-up.

Good luck with the 6 month holidays and mansions, by the way - it's not for me but if that's what you want then go for it and I hope you make it big time.

Which has just put a thought into my thick skull about another post...

Oops... not my intention.

YOU ARE SOOOO WRONG, YOU COULD NOT BE MORE WRONG, I'M NOT SURE WHAT YOU'RE WRONG ABOUT, BUT YOU'RE STILL WRONG.

Does that help ? ;-)

You can achieve more with money than you can without.

Group hug ? ;-)

Now, where did I put that latest powertool catalogue ?

Great thread, I love it.

My 2c, here it comes.

While personally for me, money is not the most important thing in life, it is very important, so it to "keep the dream alive"
(sorry Lawsy).
Yes, one day I would love to have a lot of wealth both for personal satisfaction as well as to be able to put back something to society (no I am not a socialist, just a dreamer) by sharing with friends and via some of my pet projects which mainly relates to disadvantaged kids and families, financial education, and some health related issues.
It would (sorry I meant, WILL BE) great to reach that point in life when I can freely share my wealth.
Presently, I am still trying to figure out how the next bill get paid, but keep on dreaming at the same time.
Sim, when you find the catalogue, please email a copy of it to me, it would greatly improve my motivation factor.

Now hang on a minute, Tibor, you're getting into a whole new ball game here which means that this thread could go on FOREVER.

I heartily agree with you (which is extremely annoying dammit) - I, too, am no socialist, just yer average blue-blooded, freedom-loving, democratic, shit-kicking CAPITALIST who thinks that not only should we all become financially independent of the state and everybody else as soon as possible, but that, beyond that, there is a moral responsibility to make as much money as we possibly can with the two hands and one head that God gave us and put it back somewhere where it's needed.

Where that money goes is a matter of personal choice (which we have the right to make as it is our money), whether it is saving the world with Greenpeace or fighting for freedom for all with Amnesty Int'l or helping the disadvantaged or pumping it in to Cancer Research or education or whatever - as you say, into your own pet projects.

But that's another thread, I think?

Hugs & kisses.
Anon.

PS what's with the power tool thing - what are you guys planning on building? A new Opera House?

Hi Anon,

Opera house at the right location? Of course, but also some other developments as greed will take over.

An Opera house that actually looks pretty ?

And NOT something like what they've done in Hong Kong and Singapore (trying to out Opera House the Opera House).

A building with style. With class.

Am I committing treason by suggesting that our precious Opera House is an ugly eye-sore ?

I will admit that it is a visible and memorable landmark. (Land-blight perhaps ?)

The land could be better put to use as an apartment block I would think !

(Tongue firmly in cheek)
