Budget renovation ideas

Hi guys/girls,
I'm about to start a Queenslander renovation in Qld and was wondering what tips/advise people have to reduce costs. I'm predominantly thinking materials etc, but open to any advise.

My last budget reno materials went like this.

Kitchen floor tiles= gumtree - 2 cartons of carona
900mm freestanding oven, 2 years old= ebay- $300
Bathroom/laundry wall and floor tiles= surplus auctions- cheap $8ish sqm
Laminate floor= surplus auctions - cheap again but cant remember exactly

Plus lots of other bargains along the way, we weren't in any rush though so just picked them up as they came our way.

Get a list of the things you need and spend lots of time on Ebay and Gumtree looking for bargains. As an example, i bought a brand new Smeg cooktop RRP $2000 for $400. Also bought shower bases and numerous tap sets for literally next to nothing from a builder who was offloading unused/old stock.

There are plenty of bargains out there just have to be on the lookout! Good way to save on building costs if your not hugely fussy.
