Can you walk into a pub on your own ?

l'm a very social person on the right day when l get fired up and l've done some serious partying over the years.
But l've never been able to walk into a pub on my own if l don't know anyone inside . It's just something that doesn't come easy to me .
Friends and stuff , no problemo l'll probably be the last one standing but on my own, knowing no one !

Can you do that type of thing ?

When l was traveling l could easily just walk into a pub somewhere solo, but traveling's different. Nothing matters when your traveling .

Talking just pubs in your areas or there abouts , home turf type thing but knowing no one ..
My brother does, he'll just walk in, anywhere, any time, day or night. Doesn't matter what type of pub or crowd. Die hard locals or full of partying .
l can do or go almost anything anywhere on my own but walking into a pub , total block !

How important are other people's opinion of you?

Come on Random, you can do it. Before you know it you'll have a few lagers under your belt, chatting away to all and sundry.

I love doing that kind of thing, I never drink alone at home but I'll often do it out. Love eating out alone too, gigives me a chance to clear my head

I do it all the time. Having said that, I'm not a social person. The pub I usually go to, I'll know people there, but if I want to go somewhere alone, it's not an issue.

Nice one , and nah , not very at all really.
That's why it's sorta strange l guess .

Do ya ,same with my brother.
Don't you feel weird if there's groups and pairs and l dunno , everyone with someone.?
And then , there is 1 :)

I do it a fair bit when I'm away with work.. But it's for dinner and it has to be a nice pub.

Going in solo to socialise, have a few drinks and kill time is not my thing.. I'm sure a lot of guys do it for "man therapy". I'd rather spend my free time elsewhere.

Off topic; Have you also noticed a resurgence of barbers? Now run by hipsters who I think try to assume the role of "man therapist" I.e. Gives relationship advice, knows all the good bars, cafes and restaurants..

You know , how many times are you just walking past a pub somewhere ,could be a nice day or a nice night , you might be just on your way to somewhere or whatever. Or maybe you have nothing else on anyway and it just looks nice in there, get's you thinking man l'd love a beer .

No ,haven't , do you have barbers where you are ?

You know l've been thinking about that lately because it's always chicks and salons or - hair studio's - crikey . l've been getting my hair cut in those places for years now there just doesn't seem to be a barber anywhere these days.
Gives me the sh#ts though , over it. Unless shes a hottie
l use to like it , get a gay or some chick and hopefully a pretty cool haircut/shampoo .
Pretty basic these days though , l'm over it, missing the barber.Going to find one here though .
When l was a kid there was a barber down the end of my street , grew up getting our hair cut there.

Ya - definitely. Been clubbing on my own once before...not a good idea!

Now that's brave!
Like sanj - do it a lot and love it.
Once you've worked in a pub or two you realise that what people say or think in a pub is largely irrelevant. :) That's if they say or think anything at all about a person walking into a pub. It's a place to get a drink or a meal and a lot of people go by themselves.

Girlfriend's been away for a couple of months so I've gone to restaurants a number of times by myself. I'd usually prefer to have a book with me but even without, it's no big issue.

WRT barbers, there's been a definite resurgence. It's part of the whole "Heritage/vintage" subculture. A big interest in 1920's-1950's "rural/rough urban" Americana.

Look up:

Hawleywoods, Sterling Barbershop, BestMadeCo, Filson, Smith Journal, etc. etc. Even look at the humble Drizabone website, now very fashionable.

I'll admit, I dig on it all. Brass, Plaid, Flannel, Denim, Leather, they're the uniform of choice for the "Lumbersexual" (NB: Not a dendrophiliac).

I'm with Random--I can't go into a place on my own unless it's just for a coffee. and a read of the newspaper. I would love to be able to go and have a meal on my own but I can't.

Don't get that feeling :D

Lol - I'll keep an eye out for you.....not that I go clubbing :-(

I don't mind going to eat alone. Especially now with kids - sitting down alone to enjoy food without chasing them around is wonderful.

Not too keen on heading to a pub alone though - would find it a bit boring.

Cheers

Jamie

Been there. You know what happened? I went in and had a delicious beer. There's nothing better than a delicious beer. Unless it's a free delicious beer.

random, why does going out somewhere on your own freak you out? I'm genuinely curious, because I've had the 'OMG, I can't believe you go out on your own! I could never do that!' discussion so many times over the years.
